Who is BRANDTECH

BRANDTECH Health Technology Consulting is a Strategy and Market Access Consulting company established in 2006 by Mark Brand.

We are a practical and pragmatic organization offering an external, independent, and objective resource as thought leaders to the industry, to support the introduction of health technologies by, and in any sector, into a dynamic health care environment. We work with a network of colleagues with the relevant skills sets to tackle a project should it be necessary.

As the founders, Mark began his career as an engineer in electronics, giving him an insight to technology that was to become the basis for his success in the commercial world of health technology strategic management. After working as an equipment service engineer, he moved into commerce relatively quickly, taking up leadership positions in marketing and sales with Protea Medical and subsequently Ethicon Endosurgery, a division of Johnson and Johnson, before founding BRANDTECH.

During a 15-year tenure at Johnson and Johnson, Mark held various portfolios in sales, product, and marketing management, and was a leader of an enormously successful team that launched the business in an environment highly sensitive to change and health care cost drivers. Given the market access success enjoyed by the core business with introducing high end specialised technologies, Mark was tasked with establishing the first dedicated Health Economics and Reimbursement (HE&R) unit in J&J within a medical device company in South Africa, responsible for applying the same strategic thinking to supporting market access across all the other businesses within the company.

With the collective corporate and consulting experience gained, BRANDTECH offers a practical and pragmatic approach to planning and problem solving, and through this has grown its’ reputation for providing a resource for guidance on health technology management and business strategy, for not only technology manufacturers and distributors, but also to other stakeholders including the medical schemes industry, hospitals, medical specialist associations, patient advocacy NPO’s and government policy decision makers. Through these interactions and activities, BRANDTECH offers perspectives built on an extensive and unique blend of experience and networks that aims to benefit clients.

As a strategy and market access consultant, I offer a unique strategic consulting service through a blend of sales and marketing experience with market access, health economics and reimbursement to improve market access, with intimate knowledge of the South African Healthcare market.

Mark is actively involved in the industry as a member of International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), the South African Health Technology Assessment Society, the Medical Devices Professional Group (MDPG), South African Medical Technology Industry Association (SAMED) and the Pharmaceutical and Technology Care Management Association (PTCMA), leading initiatives aimed at improving access to innovative and sustainable healthcare in South Africa.

Mark tops his experience with post graduate qualifications in Marketing (IMM), Strategy, Leadership and Change Management (WITS), a Masters in Business Administration (UK) and Health Technology Assessment (USB).
